Melt butter with sugar and cinnamon. Spread mixture on bottom of a 9 X 13" pan. Lay slices of bread in pan in 2 layers of six slices.
Beat milk and eggs together and pour over bread. Be careful to moisten all the bread, especially the edges. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
Next morning, bake, covered, at 350° for 40 minutes. Remove foil and turn over each piece (top & bottom slice, together) . Bake an additional 10 minutes. Place each double slice on a warm platter and serve with syrup or powdered sugar.
