Shrimp Creole

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1 cup celery chopped
  • 1 medium green pepper chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 14 1/2 ounces canned tomatoes diced
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • black pepper to taste
  • dash hot pepper sauce cayenne pepper, or crushed red pepper, to taste
  • 2 lbs. raw shrimp shells removed
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

Instructions

  • Sauté onion, celery and green pepper in hot olive oil. Add minced garlic, tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, sugar, chili powder, Worcestershire, black pepper and hot sauce. Simmer uncovered 15-20 minutes or until desired thickness. Add shrimp; simmer and stir until just done(shrimp turns pink). Mix cornstarch with l tablespoon cold water and stir into skillet until thickened. Adjust seasonings. Serve over Jasmine rice.
