Devil Dogs
Also known as Whoopie Pies.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup Crisco
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 5 tablespoons flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 sticks butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- salt
Instructions
- Cream sugar, Crisco, and eggs. Mix in buttermilk, water and vanilla.
- Sift together dry ingredients and incorporate into batter.
- Drop on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes.
FILLING
- Mix flour and milk together like gravy and cook until thick; cool.
- Cream powdered sugar and butter. Add vanilla and salt.
- Blend all together and mix with beater until it looks like whipped cream.
- Spread between cookies.
